Flexible Management of Shared Groupware Objects
نویسندگان
چکیده
Synchronous groupware brings together users, which are geographically distributed, but connected via a network. In this paper we describe an object manager, which simplifies synchronous groupware development. It offers a variety of services for controlling an application's shared data, including flexible object distribution, flexible object coupling, latecomer support and configurable concurrency control. After a brief description of the development platform and the object manager basic concepts we focus on its configurable services, e.g. consistency maintenance and object coupling. A description of the runtime architecture and directions for future work conclude the paper.

A CORBA Platform for Component Groupware
The next generation of CSCW systems should be component-based. Such systems consist of independently developed groupware components (i.e. CSCW software components) which users can pick and mix to obtain a groupware application environment tailored to their needs. To support developers in achieving this, groupware platforms should be based on CORBA, an emerging industry standard for distributed ...
متن کاملFlexible Batching and Consistency Mechanisms for Building Interactive Groupware Applications
This paper presents our state sharing support for building object-oriented interactive groupware in wide-area distributed environments. We motivate and present an asynchronous model for updating replicated state, which supports atomicity of updates across multiple shared objects. Coupled with our flexible marshalling framework, this model allows existing application data-structure classes to be...
متن کاملDAgora: A Flexible, Scalable and Reliable Object-Oriented Groupware Platform
In this paper we describe a flexible, scalable, and reliable "object-oriented groupware platform" specially tailored as a foundation to support synchronous, asynchronous, and multi-synchronous groupware applications. The platform relies on an hybrid replication approach where volatile objects are actively replicated to support synchronous interaction, and persistent objects are lazily replicate...
متن کاملCustomizable Data Distribution for Synchronous Groupware
The state of a groupware application must be shared to support interactions between collaborating users. There have been a lot of discussions about the best distribution scheme for the state of a groupware application. Many existing groupware platforms support only one distribution scheme, e.g. a replicated or a central scheme, and apply the selected scheme to the entire application. None of th...
متن کاملSupporting Synchronous Groupware with Peer Object-Groups
We propose the peer object-group design pattern as a suitable architectural solution to structure and implement synchronous groupware applications. We discuss a reliable group-communication subsystem and a distributed objects model, implemented in Java, used to realize the approach. 1. Characterizing Groupware "Computer Supported Cooperative Work" CSCW, deals with the use of computer systems by...
